Luanda - A delegation from the US Congress met on Monday with the Speaker of the Angolan Parliament, Carolina Cerqueira, accompanied by members of the different political representations with parliamentary seats.
The American delegation is in Angola as part of the visit of the President of the United States of America, Joe Biden.
The delegations of the two countries addressed the strengthening of interparliamentary cooperation and committed to boosting the Angola-United States of America National Friendship Group.
Members of the U.S. Congress, who praised the country's progress, recommended the passage of local government enforcement, national security and the criminalization of vandalism laws, which are fundamental to the national democratic process.
In turn, the Angolan Members of the Parliament informed that the concerns presented have already been taken care of by the National Assembly and are on the agenda for approval as soon as possible.
Commitment to World Peace
The Speaker of the National Assembly reaffirmed Angola's commitment to the promotion and preservation of world peace.
She also informed that Angolan Parliament has 39% female representation and a predominantly young age group, whose average is 50 years old, and highlighted its participation in various regional and international organizations, such as the SADC Parliamentary Forum, the ICGLR Parliamentary Forum, the IPU, the Parliaments of the Francophonie, among others.
