Addis Ababa - Angola and Ethiopia signed this Thursday, in Addis Ababa, two bilateral cooperation agreements, aiming to “create a new dynamic” in the existing relations between the two countries, in different areas.

This is the General Cooperation Agreement in the Economic, Technical-Scientific and Cultural domains and the Memorandum of Understanding for the Establishment of Political Consultation Mechanisms between the Angolan and Ethiopian Ministries of Foreign Affairs.

The two legal instruments of cooperation were signed by the Angolan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, and his Ethiopian counterpart, Taye Atske-Selassie, on the sidelines of the 44th ordinary session of the Executive Council of the African Union (AU), opened Wednesday fair, in the Ethiopian capital.

According to a diplomatic source, the two countries intend to conclude new agreements in the areas of mutual legal assistance in criminal matters and the transfer and extradition of prisoners, as well as air services.

The new treaties must join those already existing between both, with emphasis on the Bilateral Air Services Agreement of May 20, 1977, the Memorandum of Understanding between the Aeronautical Authorities of September 15, 1998 and the Agreement Commercial on Exchange of Products and Goods, signed on January 26, 1981.

Angola and Ethiopia established diplomatic ties back in 1977, almost two years after the proclamation of National Independence, on November 11, 1975.
