Abu Dhabi – The Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço, had a meeting this Sunday in Abu Dhabi with his counterpart from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, aiming to discuss the strengthening of bilateral cooperation.
The meeting, behind closed doors, took place at the Palace of Nations, which has been the official residence of the President of the United Arab Emirates since 2004.
João Lourenço arrived Sunday in Abu Dhabi to take part in the environmental forum on Sustainability Week.
The Angolan Head of State´s agenda includes his participation in the opening ceremony of the Sustainability Week which is scheduled for Monday, then on Tuesday João Lourenço will talk about clean energies production in Africa, in a panel which the President of Zambia, Hakainde Hichilema, President of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni, President of Tanzania, Ms Samia Suluhu and the President of Kenya, William Ruto, will also attend.
Development of Bilateral Relations
Angola and the United Arab Emirates signed in 2019 an agreement on reciprocal investment protection.
Both governments ratified the agreement to avoid double taxation and tax evasion and it entered into force in March 2020.
The two states keep close links of cooperation in the sectors of oil, gas, trade, investment, energy, defence, transport, agriculture, fisheries, banking, telecommunications and finance.
