Addis Ababa - Angola and Comoros signed, on Thursday, Feb 13, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, a new legal instrument to strengthen relations of cooperation, friendship and solidarity between the two countries.
Signed at the Angolan Embassy in the Ethiopian capital, on the sidelines of the 38th Summit of Heads of State and Govt of the African Union, the aforementioned General Cooperation Agreement establishes cooperation ties in the political, economic, scientific and social fields.
The document, initialled by the minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, and Comoros’ head of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and African Integration, Mbae Mohamed, creates the general bases for promoting technical cooperation between both States in the most varied areas.
With the instrument signed, Angola and Comoros commit to developing and strengthening their relations based on legal equality, mutual respect, national sovereignty and territorial integrity, without interference in the internal affairs of each State and the safeguarding of mutual interests.
Meanwhile, the 46th ordinary session of the Executive Council (ministerial meeting) of the African Union, which began on Wednesday, ends this Thursday, in preparation for the Summit of African Heads of State and Government, taking place from the 15th to the 16th of this month and during which President João Lourenço will take over the leadership of the continental organization.
The Angolan Head of State, who will preside over the AU from next Saturday until 2026 February, is expected to arrive at afternoon in Addis Ababa.
On Friday, João Lourenço will participate in a AU Peace and Security Council meeting that will discuss the situation in Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
