Luanda - National Assembly Speaker Carolina Cerqueira has stressed the need for Angola and Cabo Verde to boost the exchange of experiences in various sectors, with focus on parliamentary field.
Carolina Cerqueira said so Sunday at Luanda’s 4 de Fevereiro International Airport, prior to her departure to Cabo Verde, adding that both countries should take advantage of the fact that they share the same language and common history.
The visiting agenda of the parliamentary leader features, among other issue, fostering the bilateral cooperation agreement, which set several patterns for the operation of institutions and their modernisation.
"The two parliaments will exchange experiences and discuss many issues, taking into account the fact that the countries are members of Portuguese-speaking community, Atlantic countries and share many aspects", said Carolina Cerqueira.
On the other hand, the National Assembly Speaker considered
excellent the bilateral relations with Cabo Verde and pledged to strengthen them during the visit of multi-sector delegation to the archipelago.
In addition to Carolina Cerqueira, the Angolan delegation includes the first secretary of the Parliament Manuel Dembo, as well as the MPs Mário Pinto de Andrade from the ruling MPLA party, Liberty Chiyaka (UNITA), Florbela Malaquias (PHA) and other officials of the National Assembly.
The three-day visit will enable the Angolan delegation to take part in the plenary session of the National Assembly of Cabo Verde and visit Tarrafal Prison.
The agenda also includes meetings with the Cabo Verde Head of State, the Prime Minister and the Speaker of the Parliament.
The programme also foresees an extended meeting between both parliaments and a visit to Santa Catarina city, as part of the strengthening of the bilateral relations.
The parliaments of the two countries have been cooperating through the Angola-Cabo Verde Friendship Groups.
In the field of parliamentary diplomacy with some countries, Carolina Cerqueira visited Morocco in April, during which the two countries signed an agreement to strengthen cooperation for the exchange of experience in different fields. JD/MDS/VM/MRA/NIC
