Luanda - Brazil's ambassador to Angola, Eugênia Barthelmess, said Thursday in Luanda that relations between the two countries are strong and promising, at a time when the two nations are celebrating 50 years of diplomatic cooperation.
The diplomat, who made the statement after a courtesy meeting with the Vice President of the MPLA, Mara Quiosa, said that Angola is an important political and commercial partner and a great partner in the main multilateral coordination forums, as they have established a privileged relationship of great trust.
"The two governments are together making an assessment of the 50 years that have passed and a projection of joint work for the next 50 years," the diplomat said.
Eugênia Barthelmess recalled that Brazil was the first country to declare to the international community that it recognized Angola as a sovereign and independent state.
MPLA and the Workers' Party
As a member of the Workers' Party (PT), the ruling political group in Brazil, Eugênia Barthelmess welcomed the link with the MPLA as a mutually beneficial, "very old and very important" relationship that dates back to Angola's independence in 1975.
The diplomat praised the current vice-president of Angola's ruling party for her wise handling of party affairs, as well as when she was a provincial governor. MGM/VIC/TED/AMP
