Moçâmedes - A delegation led by the Namibian ambassador, Patrick Nandago, has been working in the municipality of Moçâmedes, south-western Namíbe Province, with the aim of learning about projects in courses in the port and railway sector, within the scope of the implementation of the Namíbe Corridor.
Speaking to the press, after a meeting with local authorities, the diplomat, who has been in the region since Thursday (Oct 3), informed that the working visit aims to monitor the level of execution of projects, in order to establish partnerships that can improve trade and industry in the region.
The ambassador stated that the railway branch that will connect the two countries will accelerate trade exchanges, adding that, on Namibia's side, the construction of the railway line that connects the border areas of Oshikango (Namibia) and Santa Clara (Angola).
"One of the aims of building the railway line is to reduce cargo transport on our roads, as there is a lot of damage to the road network as a result of cargo transport, therefore "we, in the Angolan side, are hoping that the work will be done as quickly as possible for railway connection between the areas of Chamutete and Santa Clara”, he explained.
In turn, the Namibe vice-governor for Technical Services and Infrastructure, Ema da Silva, valued Namibia's interest in strengthening ties in the field of transport, highlighting that it will reinforce the positioning of the two countries in the Community of States of Southern Africa (SADC).
“The idea is to create a transport network that connects the two countries and reinforces the existing historical relations between the people, and that through ports, railways and logistics the two countries can take steps together to the development of the region”.
The delegation's agenda includes visits to the Moçâmedes Railway facilities, a visit to the implementation area of package 1 and 2 of the Moçâmedes Bay integrated development project, a meeting with those responsible for the Port of Namibe and the Transport ministries.
