Luanda - Foreign Affairs minister, Téte Antonio, highlighted the participation of Angola in the 22nd Ordinary Session of the Conference of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) that ended this Saturday in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The statements issued by the Foreign Affairs Ministry mentions that minister Téte Antonio underlined the fact that the ECCAS meting recognized the role of the Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço, in the pacification process in eastern DR Congo.
"This was clearly stated in the final communiqué" which encouraged the Angolan leader to continue this work in his capacity as chairman of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) and Champion of Peace awarded by the African Union.
The minister added that there are few countries contributing to the organization's budget, underlining that Angola has been fulfilling its obligation in this regard.
It is essential, Téte António said, that all member states comply with the payment of the quotas to the organization.
During the meeting, the President of Gabon, Ali Bongo, took over the rotating leadership of the ECCAS replacing the Head of State of the DRC, FélixTshisekedi.
Angola attended the meeting with a delegation headed by the Foreign Affairs minister, Téte António, representing the Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço.
The Economic Community of Central African States was created in Libreville, Gabon, in December 1981, becoming operational only in 1985.
ECCAS aims to promote cooperation and self-sustainable development, with particular emphasis on stability and economic integration of the member states and to contribute to the improvement of the quality of life of the respective populations.
The Community is made up of Angola, Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Rwanda, Sao Tome and Principe and Democratic Republic of Congo.
