Luanda - The Republic of Angola defends dialogue as a way to resolve conflicts, said Wednesday the First Deputy-Speaker of National Assembly adding that the country is committed to a more peaceful world.

Américo Cuononoca expressed this position at the opening ceremony of a lecture on the 74th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, celebrated on December 10.

The National Assembly leader backed the strengthening of national institutions of justice, in terms of training and capacity building of personnel, as well as in relation to supervisory bodies.

He reported that the MPs have been working on human rights, always maintaining a commitment to the university and indivisibility.

“The main role of Parliament in the face of a violation of human rights, in the event of armed conflict, is to respect life, to promote peace and non-violence,” he noted.

In the regional framework, he recalled that peace and security in Africa have been a priority in Angola's international relations with other sovereign states.

Américo Cuononoca mentioned the experience accumulated by Angola regarding the management and resolution of conflicts.

He stated that the country has made a great contribution to processes aimed at preserving life and human dignity.

"Parliament, through the Commission on Human Rights, Petitions, Complaints and Citizens' Suggestions, has made efforts to work with other similar public institutions, with a view to ensuring the political protection of citizens' fundamental rights", he said.

The meeting discussed topics such as “Human Rights and Citizenship”, “Equality and non-discrimination”, “Public policies for the defense of the elderly” and the “Role of the Ombudsman” were discussed.

The meeting took place under the motto "The role of the Ombudsman in defending vulnerable citizens".
