Luanda - Angola defended Wednesday in Geneva, Switzerland, at the 28th Session of the Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, the Initial Report Relative to the Implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights, as a State Party of the said convention since May 2014, it is obliged to submit reports to the Human Rights Committee (Supervisory) every four years on the provisions adopted to make effective the rights recognized in the document, as well as the challenges and progress made.
Angola signed and ratified the Convention and the Additional Protocol on March 5, 2013 and deposited it in 2014 (National Assembly Resolution No. 1/13 and No. 2/13 of January 11).
With the ratification of these legal tools, Angola has once again expressed its commitment to the promotion, protection and defence of the rights of Persons with Disabilities.
The Angolan delegation is headed by the secretary of State for Family and Women Promotion, Alcina Kindanda, and includes the secretary of State for Human Rights and Citizenship, Ana Celeste Januário, the secretary of State for Mass Media, Nuno Caldas Albino, the secretary of State for Pre-School and Primary Education, Pacheco Francisco, among others.
The dialogue between the State Representatives and the Committee members consists in the presentation of an Intervention by the State, followed by the Committee members' questions and the adoption of the final report with considerations and recommendations to be implemented in the next years, reads the note.
