Luanda - The Deputy Chief Justice of the Angolan Supreme Court (TS), Efigénia Lima, highlighted this Tuesday, in Luanda, the country's commitment to building a justice system capable of responding to the need for political-institutional, economic and social development.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the “Workshop on case management and criminal justice”, she maintained that an effective justice system contributes significantly to public order and stability, improving the business environment and strengthening the credibility of state institutions.
In this regard, she defended the creation of an effective procedural management system with a simplified and modern method and procedure for organizing judicial activity.
Efigénia Lima said it was necessary to mitigate procedural slowness and provide better service to the population.
On the other hand, the resident coordinator of the United Nations in Angola, Zahira Virani, praised the work of Angolan magistrates, "dedicated to contributing to the country's efforts in developing an inclusive, effective and efficient system in managing processes and access to justice".
According to Zahira Virani, Angola has demonstrated commitment and determination in promoting justice and legality in the country.
It reaffirmed the United Nations' commitment to supporting transparent, effective, non-discriminatory and accountable justice systems that promote access to justice for all.
She reported on the UN's engagement in capacity building and training of criminal justice bodies, to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in promoting fair, peaceful and inclusive societies towards the 2030 Agenda.
In turn, the representative of the European Union in Angola, Paulo Simões, highlighted the commitment that the Angolan authorities have been developing in combating corruption, illicit financial flows and money laundering, as well as strengthening mechanisms for recovering assets illicitly removed from the public sphere.
In this regard, he made it known that the Angolan Government has counted on "the consistent and solid support of the EU and the UN, in a partnership that has already seen results".
The event promotes the exchange of experiences and knowledge between professionals from the Judiciary and the Angolan Public Prosecutor's Office with experts from Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa on promoting access to justice for all, fostering strong partnerships at both regional and international levels.
It also aims to share successful case studies and strategies to make justice systems more efficient.
