Luanda - The Angolan National Assembly Speaker, Carolina Cerqueira, on Tuesday assured the creation of conditions to welcome about 250 delegates who will participate in the 55th Plenary Assembly of the SADC Parliamentary Forum (PF-SADC), to be held in Luanda, from 1 to 7 July.
Carolina Cerqueira was speaking, in a videoconference, at the Meeting of the Subcommittee on Parliamentary Affairs of the Southern African Development Community (PF-SADC) Parliamentary Forum.
The leader of the Angolan Parliament presented, on the occasion, a report outlining the preparations and modalities of the 55th Assembly of the SADC-PF, in accordance with the cost-sharing agreement between the regional body and the National Assembly, signed on November 11, 2023.
The Speaker said that invitation letters have already been sent to all member parliaments of the SADC-PF, and so far five have registered, namely from Botswana, Namibia, Zambia, Tanzania and Zimbabwe.
The SADC-PF Plenary Assembly will take place under the theme 'The Role of Parliaments in Promoting Renewable Energy Policies and Creating a Single Regional Energy Market'.
The event will serve to consider the reports of the standing committees on gender equality, promotion of women and youth development, human and social development.
The agenda also includes an analysis of the progress made in democratization, good governance and the defense of human rights in the member countries.
There is also consideration of the reports on trade, industry, finance and investment, food, agriculture and natural resources.
For five days, parliamentarians will also review the report of the regional parliamentary commission for the oversight of model laws, as well as a symposium on renewable energy and visits to socio-economic infrastructures in Angola.
According to the Coordinator of the Organizing Committee of the 55th Plenary Assembly of the SADC Parliamentary Forum, Pedro Sebastião, all the human, material, technical, logistical and security conditions for the event at the National Assembly Palace are in place.
The meeting of the Committee of Secretaries-General of the Member Parliaments of the SADC-PF will be held on the sidelines of the Plenary Assembly, scheduled for 29 and 30 June.
