Addis Ababa – Angola has summoned for this Friday, in Addis Ababa, an extraordinary summit on the situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), with a view to re-launching the peace process, as confirmed by the diplomatic mission in the Ethiopian capital.
The meeting, an initiative of President João Lourenço, precedes the 37th ordinary summit of the African Union (AU), scheduled to happen this weekend, in Addis Ababa.
A note distributed to the press explains that the meeting will discuss the re-launch of the peace process in the east of DRC, and it is set to be attended by the heads of State of Angola, South Africa, Burundi, Equatorial Guinea, Malawi, Kenya, DRC, Rwanda, Sudan, South Sudan and Tanzania, who will be joined, as guests, by representatives from the AU Commission.
The initiative is part of the recommendations made at the last meeting of military chiefs in the ambit of the Quadripartite Mechanism on the Peace Process in the eastern part of the DR Congo, held in October 2023 in Addis Ababa.
