São Vicente - Angola's ambassador to Cape Verde, Júlia de Assunção Cipriano Machado, on Tuesday invited members of the business sector to look at the opportunities for investment in the Angolan market.
Speaking to Journalists on the sidelines of the First International Congress on Science, Innovation and Development in Lusophony, the diplomat said that the trade volume was still not significant and she believed that it could be leveraged.
Júlia Machado recalled that in 2022 the 8th bilateral joint commission was held to address various aspects of increasing trade, with the issue of air and sea transport being the priority.
In this regard, four legal instruments were signed in the field of air transport, three memorandum and one agreement, but no figures were given.
The diplomat also highlighted the signing of an agreement in the field of investment related to the promotion and reciprocal protection of investments, creating legal conditions so that investors and the private sector feel safe to invest in both Angola and Cape Verde.
With regard to the Angolan community, he said that around 150 Angolans live in Cape Verde, spread across the nine islands, 30% in Mindelo.
Regarding the congress organised by the Universidade Lusófona of Cape Verde (Lusophone University of Cape Verde) to be held from 18 to 20 October in the city of Mindelo, on Saint Vincent Island, she highlighted the presentation of very important themes in various areas linked to new technologies, fisheries, tourism and the sciences.
The formalisation of political and diplomatic relations between Angola and Cape Verde dates back to 30 August 1977.
The historical and fraternal relations between Angola and Cape Verde have strengthened over the years, based on common values and a deep understanding of regional and global needs.
Through dialogue and collaboration, the two countries have worked together to tackle global challenges, promote peace and stability in the region and seek opportunities for economic progress. PA/VM/DAN/DOJ
