Oslo - Angolan Head of State João Lourenço said Thursday (17) in Oslo that Angola intends to set up foundations of a strategic cooperation with Norway, as part of win-win results for both countries.

Speaking at Angola-Norway Business Forum, João Lourenço underlined that strategic cooperation will bring benefits to the respective peoples.

João Lourenço stated that in the last five years the Angolan Executive took very important steps to make the country an increasingly attractive space for foreign investment.

The objective, according to the Head of State, is to build a strong and sustained economy, increasingly less dependent on oil resources.

Meanwhile, the Statesman reiterated that government action has been focused on deepening the foundations of a Democratic State of Law, where there
is no impunity for acts of corruption and practices of nepotism and influence peddling.

“We are building a State that presents high levels of transparency in the management of the public purse, where equal opportunities for all citizens and healthy competition between market agents are preserved”, he said.

João Lourenço made it clear that the Angolan Government is working on creation of a State where access to justice is quick and equal for all and where merit and professional competence are valued.

The Executive and the Justice bodies, taking into account the harmful effects of the phenomenon of corruption in the economy and above all in society, have been taking concrete measures to eliminate the effects of this practice.

Addressing the investors, João Lourenço said that alongside the consolidation of the Democratic State of Law, Angola is developing actions to consolidate the market economy.

Enjoy the Norwegian experience

The Angolan statesman highlighted the fact that Norway has a diversified economy, with an "excellent business environment" that allows it to attract foreign direct investment, export to the world not only oil and gas, but also sea products, machinery and high tech. equipment and manufactured goods.

According to the President, the Norwegian blue economy has a very important weight in the process of creating wealth in this country and its exports.

João Lourenço told the forum that Angola can learn a lot from the Norwegian experience, particularly in the use of natural resources and their conversion into
wealth and social well-being for the country and the Angolan people.

Economic growth

João Lourenço referred to estimates that show that in 2022 the Angolan economy should grow by 2.7%, with a performance led by the non-oil sector.

In order to strengthening the role of the private sector in our economy, the government has been developing since 2019 a vast programme of privatisation of assets that previously belonged to the State, he stressed.

The President of the Republic João Lourenço arrived in Oslo, Norway, for a two-day working visit to strengthen cooperation between the countries.
