Luanda - Angolan President João Lourenço has invited the counterparts of Rwanda Paul Kagame, Democratic Republic of Congo Félix Tshisekedi, and Burundi Évariste Ndayishimiye, for a new summit on Rwanda/DRC crisis next Wednesday (23) in Luanda.
A note from the Press Office of the Presidency, states that the Angolan head of State also invited the former Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta to attend the event.
According to the document, Luanda summit is expected to approve the Action Plan for Peace in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and the resumption of good relations with neighbouring Rwanda.
João Lourenço addressed the invitation in his capacity as African Union Champion of Peace and Reconciliation, in charge of the issue on DRC-Rwanda conflict.
Angolan Statesman had been in Rwanda and DRC on 11 and 12 November respectively, to dialogue with his counterparts Paul Kagame and Félix Tshisekedi, as part of mediation of political and military tensions in the region.
At the meeting, João Lourenço came up with proposals to adapt the Luanda Peace Roadmap to the new reality experienced on the border between the two countries.
President Lourenço, who chairs the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR), is also the African Union (AU) mediator in the crisis between Rwanda and the DRC.
