Luanda - Angola has said it will open new embassies in Norway, Indonesia, East Timor and Australia and transfer the one in Singapore to Philippines, the country’s Foreign Minister Téte António announced Monday in Luanda.
Speaking at the 10TH Extended Consultative Council of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Mirex), the minister explained that the opening and accrediting of ambassadors for the four new missions is already at the final stage.
The minister explained that transfer of ambassadors to other countries is part of the government’s strategy to maintain a balance in the rationalization and resizing of Angola's diplomatic and consular network, with a focus on the evolution of the international economy and geopolitical factors.
During the meeting held under the motto "Mirex and the enhancement of human capital in the diplomatic and administrative spheres", the minister stressed that Angola is focused on attracting foreign direct investment, stimulating national exports and attracting tourists and the gradual internationalization of the countries’ companies.
The diplomat stressed that the Foreign Ministry, in collaboration with other institutions, promotes business forums, fairs, exhibitions and other events during visits by the President and foreign dignitaries to Angola, in order to promote the county’s name to various investors.
The government, the minister said, attaches special importance to the African market, which is often neglected, which raises great interest from other partners outside the continent.
Téte António said in recent years Angolan coffee has regained its position in the various international markets, followed by other products such as honey and cocoa.
He stressed that there is a gradual increase in investment in the economy, with the most notable being the Lobito Corridor, diamond sector, and the promotion of local tourism, specifically the inauguration of the Iona National Park in Namibe province.
On a bilateral level, in addition to the strategic partnerships that already exist, the minister said Angola has been getting closer to the states of the Arabian Peninsula, with emphasis on the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Qatar. FMA/VIC/TED/AMP
