Luanda - The National Assembly on Sunday repudiated a text in circulation written by a journalist that comments on the attitude and actions of the Speaker of Parliament, Carolina Cerqueira.
Given the notoriety and media coverage of the journalist's work, the Directorate of Institutional Communication of the National Assembly, in a statement sent to ANGOP, clarified that the exercise of public functions, especially in positions of high responsibility such as that of the Speaker of the National Assembly, requires commitment, dedication and respect for democratic institutions.
It claims that the Speaker of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira, reaffirms her commitment to transparency, equidistance and the promotion of a parliamentary environment that values plurality and progress.
According to the statement, the Speaker has guided her actions by these principles, always with the aim of strengthening the Parliament and promoting constructive dialogue among all political forces.
The Speaker recognizes that public debate is an integral part of democracy and that differences of opinion are natural in this context.
It adds that it is important that such discussions be conducted with respect and based on facts, avoiding interpretations that could distract from the essential work being done for the benefit of the nation.
"We will continue to work with seriousness, in a spirit of openness, determination and submission to the public scrutiny of the parliamentary mission, always for the benefit of the Angolan people," the statement concludes.
