Luanda - The National Assembly Speaker, Carolina Cerqueira, on Thursday called for closer cooperation between the Angolan and Zimbabwean parliaments, ANGOP has learnt.
In a message sent to her Zimbabwean counterpart on the 44th anniversary of Zimbabwe's independence, the Speaker highlighted the strong and historic ties of friendship and cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries, expressing the desire to continue working together for the mutual benefit of the two peoples and the progress of the region.
"On this festive occasion, I wish the Republic of Zimbabwe and its citizens’ success and continued triumph in achieving excellent economic results, combined with the strengthening of its social fabric," reads the statement.
Carolina Cerqueira congratulated Zimbabwe on its socio-economic advances over the last few decades, marked by an innate capacity for resilience and overcoming emerging difficulties.
"We are amazed at how the country has progressively diversified its economy, which now rests on several solid pillars, including agribusiness, mining, tourism, while also being a pioneer in the IT and financial services sectors," the statement said.
Angola and Zimbabwe are part of the group of 16 member states of the Southern African Development Community (SADC). ART/AMP
