Ondjiva – With a view of increasing national production, the provincial government of Cunene, Cuanza-Sul, Lunda-Sul and Zaire assures the necessary support for family farmers.
The guarantee was given by the respective governors within the scope of the Local Governance Council meeting, held Friday in Cunene, under the guidance of the President of the Republic, João Lourenço.
On the occasion, Cunene's provincial governor, Gerdina Didalelwa, considered it an ongoing challenge to encourage farmers, with inputs and other agricultural means, to combat hunger in the region.
She mentioned that the province has arable land and water, hence the need to reinforce the distribution of seeds and fertilizers to the 75,538 existing family farmers, mainly to produce cereals, tubers and vegetables.
Gerdina Didalelwa highlighted the importance of family farming, which is mainly responsible for supplying the Angolan domestic market, with a great diversity of foodstuffs.
For the governor of Lunda-Sul, Daniel Neto, full attention must be paid to projects linked to this sector in which the province is showing growth in the cultivation of rice, corn, beans, wheat and soy.
Adriano Mendes de Carvalho, governor of Zaire, considered family farming the “starting point” for the province to achieve high levels of production.
“In the province, family farming is not yet at the desired level and one of the things we must do is provide families with more comfort with access to seeds and fertilizers, help with the legalization of land and bank loans,” he stated.
According to the government official, with these bets it is easier to develop this segment of agricultural activity and boost the large industries that should buy the products.
For her part, the governor of Cuanza-Sul, Mara Quiosa, said that to achieve food self-sufficiency it is necessary to continue to promote family farming.
She defended the need to work with producers, small families’ farmers and, providing agricultural inputs, production aimed at diversifying the national economy and improving the diet. PEM/FA/LHE/VC/CF/DOJ
