Luanda - The African continent has lost, with the death on Tuesday of the President of Chad, Idris Déby Itno, an important player for peace and stability in the continent, the Angolan Foreign Minister said.
Téte António was reacting to the press to the passing away of the Chadian statesman at the end of the Mini-Summit of Heads of State and Government of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR), convened to assess the political and security situation in the Central African Republic (CAR).
For the head of Angolan diplomacy, "the continent has lost a great partner for the pacification of the Central African Republic and the stability of the continent.
He said that Africans should "be concerned with the stability of Chad, because this country is a buffer zone to the advance of negative forces that affect the continent.
In power since December 1990, Idriss Déby Itno died on Tuesday from injuries sustained while commanding his army in the fight against Front for Alternance and Concord rebels in Chad in the north of the country, the official spokesman told state television.
