Luanda - A photographic exhibition portraying images of the victims of the Nakba (catastrophe) and the Palestinian exodus in 1948 was displayed from May 15-17 in Angolan capital, Luanda, at the initiative of the Palestinian Embassy in Angola.
According to the United Nations (UN) figures, at least 711,000 Arab Palestinian fled or were expelled from their homes due to the 1947-1948 civil war.
On the occasion, the Palestine ambassador to Angola, Jubrael Al Shomali, appealed to the international community for greater pressure against Israel, as the Palestinian people continue to fight for their rights to freedom.
During the event, the diplomat welcomed the essence of the information given by the Israeli News Agency Haaret2, according to which "the Palestinian people are the bravest people in the world".
Jubrael Al Shomali also praised the fact that on May 15, the Nakba would be marked for the first time at the UN General Assembly in the presence of the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
The Belgian diplomat in Angola, Jozef Smets, present at the ceremony, expressed his solidarity with the people of Palestine, who as he said, deserve security, peace and development.
The Belgian diplomat stressed that the presence of young Angolans clearly shows the importance that this generation gives to the date, especially to the need to gather more information about Africa, Middle East and the rest of the world.
The Serbian ambassador to Angola, Milos Perisic, recalled that his country went through identical moments during World War II, when thousands of people were killed.
Appealing for solidarity, Milos Perisic said that his country supports Palestine with scholarships for more than 5,000 Palestinian students in Serbia.
The opening ceremony of the exhibition was attended by politicians, diplomats, journalists and students.
