Mbanza Kongo- Eight of the total of nine recommendations issued by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) on Mbanza Kongo are currently being implemented, the coordinator of the Participatory Management Committee, Biluka Nsakala Nsenga, has said.
The recommendations have been made after the Historic Centre of Mbanza Kongo was considered World Heritage Site, which includes the construction of a new airport outside the classified perimeter that is yet to be materialized.
According to Biluka Nsakala Nsenga, UNESCO has prepared and sent a memorandum to the World Heritage Committee justifying the delays in the implementation of the recommendations.
According to Biluka Nsenga, the UNESCO experts have been informed that the runway of the local airport is closed for commercial flights, at a time when the frequencies of aircraft for other purposes have also been reduced.
