Luanda – The Angolan Hip Hop group SSP is to promote a live music concert in February, in Luanda, as part of the 50th anniversary of Angola's independence (Nov 11th), ANGOP learned on Thursday.
According to a press release from the hip hop group, the concert will take place on Feb 28th at the Belas Conference Center (CCB) and will feature special participation from the musical groups “As Gingas do Maculusso” and “O2”.
SSP, an acronym for South Side Posse, is an Angolan Hip Hop group formed in 1992, with Big Nelo, Paul G, Jeff Brown and Kudy.
The group gained notoriety on the music scene in the 90s and, being considered a pioneer of the style in Angola, contributed significantly to the popularization of hip-hop.
The group became known with songs that marked epochs, such as “Olhos café”, “Amar sem ser amado”, “Canta comigo”, “Reis da Noite”, “Não vale A Pena”, “Táctica lírica”, "Deus".
While they were at the height of their career, SSP recorded five albums, 99% of Amor (1996), Odisseia (1998), Alfa (2000), Amor e Ódio (2003) and Momento da Trajectória (2006), the latter which marked the “end” of the group’s career.
The Angola national independence was proclaimed on Nov 11, 1975 by the nationalist António Agostinho Neto who, subsequently, became the country's first President.
The festivities in the ambit of the commemoration of the independence anniversary began on Nov 11, 2024, and ends on December 31 of the current year, with decentralized activities in all provinces and diplomatic and consular missions in Angola.
