Ondjiva - A literary work entitled “Resistance in the south of Angola Ovavale 1903-1917”, written by Nsungu Manuel, was presented to the public on Wednesday in the city of Ondjiva, Southern Cunene Province.
The 99-page book, published by Kilungi publishing, has 112 copies and is the result of a research study that began in 2017 in Cunene province.
Speaking to ANGOP, the author said the work portrays the contribution of the Ovavale people in the resistance against the Portuguese during the occupation of the Cunene territories.
He explained that the book brings up issues from a historical, pedagogical, habits and customs point of view.
Nsungu Manuel stressed that the Ovavale is a subgroup of the Ovawambo linguistic ethnic group, located in the Evale commune, 66 kilometres north of the municipality of Cuanhama, in that province.
This is the author's first book.
Natural from Uíge province, Nsungu Manuel is a researcher of Angolan history, with a degree in history teaching from the Bengo Higher Pedagogical School.
