Talatona - Queen Njinga Mbande's journey from birth to power, her intelligence, resilience and guerrilla capacity will be presented on Saturday in Luanda Province in a play entitled “Njinga a Mbande”, inspired by the three novels by the Angolan writer John Bella.
Achievements such as Commander-in-Chief of the Warriors, Diplomacy and uniting peoples in the fight against slavery are also part of the repertoire to be performed by the General Directorate of the TUWIZANA Theatre Group, in salute to Africa Day, which will be celebrated on Saturday 25 May.
The novels referred to are “The First Steps of Queen Njinga”, “The Return of Queen Njinga” and “The Decisive Steps of Queen Njinga”.
Speaking to ANGOP, John Bella explained that the play will also portray her ability to negotiate with the Portuguese colonial regime for moments of peace in the Kingdom of Ndongo, and the struggles between her and her brother Ngola Mbande, because of the reach of power.
According to him, the clashes for the throne, loves and sorrows, her great pains until her ascension as Queen of the Ngola people are part of the issues it will also portray.
“Bearing in mind the importance of the story of our Heroine, in particular in the Angolan cultural and literary sphere, and in general, in Universal History, the group intends to bring more data about the life of the unmistakable warrior, and this is the first time that a play has portrayed Queen Njinga from a young age”.
He said it was Twuizana's intention to take the work to the stages of the provinces of Malanje, Bengo, Cuanza-Norte and other places in Angola.
