Luanda- The eighth edition of the International Theatre Circuit (CIT) kicks off Friday and it will pay tribute to the director of the Horizonte Njinga Mbande theatre Company, Adelino Caracol, said Wednesday in the Province of Luanda the director of the event, Adérito Rodrigues.
Speaking to ANGOP Wednesday, the official said that Adelino Caracol will be honoured due to his contribution to Angolan culture and besides that they will take the opportunity to launch the "José Mena Abrantes Theatre Writing Awards".
Adérito Rodrigues also said that, according to the event's programme, for the first time in Angola students from the Faculty of Arts will be presenting their end of course work in public, on stage, which is scheduled for 19 July.
The programme also provides for the participation of theatre groups for children, a showcase of short plays by the Tremura Show and CIT groups, as well as the participation of international theatre groups and a music and dance show.
According to Adérito Rodrigues, the 8th edition of the CIT, whose opening gala takes place at the Royal Plaza-Hotel, will also be broadcasted on digital platforms, which will have musician Grace Zola as special guest.
The programme includes performances by the groups Massoxi, Ngau Moyo, Imprevisto, São José dos Campos (Brazil), Grupo Girassol (Mozambique), Feloma Mussanzala, Ndokweno Artes, Miragens, Enigma Teatro, Kamba Artes, Conjuntura d'Artes, Imbondeiro, Etu-Ngo, Mussanzala, Etu Lene and Horizonte Njinga Mbande.
The event, which will last for six months, provides for the exchange of theatre techniques, classes and lectures and will be attended by the provinces of Luanda, Cuando Cubango, Bié, Benguela, Cuanza Sul, Namibe and Huambo.
The CIT is part of the Culture for All Project, which brings together, among others, the theatre groups Cia Enigma Teatro, Miragens Teatro, Companhia de Teatro Pitabel, Dadaísmo, Feloma Mussanzala and Imbondeiro Teatro.
"The great concept we brought to this eighth edition is to get to know Angola through theatre, which is why we also created a training circle aimed at getting artists to really get to know our Angola", explained the events director.
Prizes
For this year´s event, the organizers plan to award the best theatre groups in the categories of career, artist, actor, actress, director, revelation (new comer), costume and best group, as well as awarding the best adaptation of the book "The Visit".
The winner of the José Mena Abrantes Written Prize for theatre will receive two million kwanzas.
Among the different projects created to improve CIT this year, the organizers highlighted the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). VS/VM/MRA/jmc
