Luanda – The book entitled "História Geral de Angola" (General History of Angola), written by writer and Professor Armindo Gomes, was released on Monday in Luanda Province.
The 813-page book, divided into nine chapters, addresses the armed struggle for national liberation, the decolonization of Angola, the impact of independence on economic, social, political and cultural aspects, the country's toponymy, as well as primary and secondary migration settlements.
Speaking at the event, Armindo Gomes said that the teachers' constant search for content on the history of Angola was the basis for the production of the work.
He emphasized that the book is the result of the compilation of material over the last 30 years, in order to enrich the bibliographic collection on Angola´s history.
In this sense, the author said he hopes that the book will provoke broad written and oral debate on the subject, as well as new monographs and thematic articles.
Armindo Jaime Gomes, born in Bié, is an professor of Cultural Anthropology and General History of Angola at the Army Military Academy, in Lobito, city of Benguela.
He has a degree in Legal Sciences and a master's degree in Educational Sciences.
The writer has several books already published and available on the market, including “Os Sobas - Apontamentos étno-históricos Ovimbundu de Benguela”, “A batalha do Kwitu Kwanavale”, “Ovimbundu Pré-Coloniais” e “O Mundombe do Dombe, ou o Ndombe do mundombe”.
