Luanda - Angolan instrumentalist Galiano Neto died Wednesday in Lisbon (Portugal), after suffering a heart attack at the age of 65, ANGOP has learnt.
Instrumentalist and composer, Galiano Neto dedicated his entire life to Angolan music. Growing up in the Island of Luanda, he was part of the carnival group União Mundo da Ilha, responsible for years of carnival music production linked to this area of the city of Luanda.
Over the past 30 years, he shared stages and recorded albums alongside the biggest names in Lusophone music, such as Bonga, Nancy Vieira, Waldemar Bastos,
Chálo Correia, Paulo Flores, and Eduardo Paim.
Trained in teaching pedagogy, he helped numerous researchers trace the importance of Angolan music in the construction of identity and also as a form of resistance.
He was involved in solidarity projects, as is the case of Mon na Mon - Juntos pela Guiné-Bissau and research projects.
In 2008, he recorded an album entitled - Angola no Coração.
Reacting to the artist's death, the Minister of Culture, Tourism and Environment, Filipe Zau, said he considers the artist as a reference of African music.
