Luanda – Luanda is to host on December 13 to 15 the first edition of rhythm musical instrumental organized by Biemba Juvenil-Atelier Percussão, in partnership with Incrível África.
The event, according to percussionist and lecturer Samuel Gustavo Curti “Cemi Mistique”,is open to everyone, from professionals to percussion lovers, adding that it will detail and demonstrate how to properly play the percussion, a musical instrument built to produce sound by shaking, scraping, with the help of drumsticks or hands.
This instrument, he said, is the oldest and has been present in the history of Angolan music since the dawn of human civilization.
“In music, percussion is used to mark the rhythm and create sound effects,” he said.
Some percussion instruments used in Angola are:
“Mukupela”
A double-sided drum with vibrating reed used by the Tchokwes, Lundas, Humbes and Congos peoples.
“Ndungu”
Small, elongated drum made from a tree trunk, widely used in the Cabinda region.
"Ingomba
Tall, cylindrical drum used by the Ambundos, Ovimbundos, Humbes, Tchokwes, Congos, Quilengues, Ganguelas, Luimbes, Songos and Minungos.
"Puíta
Friction drum, originally from the Kingdom of Congo, used by the Ambundos, Ovimbundos, Humbes, Cuanhamas, Tchokwes and Mussucos.
"Tumba
Traditional instrument similar to the conga.FMC/AC/TED/AMP
