Luanda - Fifty elderly people from various care centres visited the world's largest floating bookshop, the "Logos Hope", in Luanda Wednesday. The ship has been docked in the port of Luanda since Friday, accompanied by the Secretary of State for Social Action, Family and Women's Promotion, Alcina Kindanda.
During their stay on the boat, the elderly visited some of the ship's facilities, especially the library, which has a collection of 5,000 different books, with an emphasis on children's, scientific and religious books.
The visit, according to Alcina Kindanda, was aimed at providing playful moments for the elderly and encouraging reading, as a way of reviving their role in rescuing civic and moral values and ensuring that society develops on the basis of good practices, attitudes and values.
"Today they had the opportunity and they really enjoyed it, even though most of the books were in English," she emphasised.
Alcina Kindanda appealed to the promoters of this initiative to bring books in Portuguese next time so that many people buy them and give them to the elderly.
Grandfather Alexandre Trindade expressed his happiness at visiting the library and at the experience gained there.
The Logos Hope is known for being the largest floating bookshop in the world, and in addition to its cargo of discounted literature, it carries a team of international volunteers who are dedicated to a unique vision and purpose by sharing knowledge, help and hope with people all over the world.
Operated by GBA Ships, a non-profit organisation based in Germany, the Logos Hope continues to work with other sister ships, the Logos II and Doulos. These ships have visited more than 150 countries and territories since 1970, welcoming 49 million people on board.
The Logos Hope was launched in 2009 and is the organisation's largest ship, housing a crew of 350. AB/PA/DAN/DOJ
