Luanda – The new record by the folklore group “Ana Itungu”, entitled “Avô Ngola”, released on Thursday in Luanda, pays tribute to King Ngola Kiluanje Kya Samba, for his bravery and perseverance in the fight against the Portuguese occupation.
Introduced by cultural researcher, António Fonseca, the album contains eleven musical tracks and addresses social and anthropological aspects, defending the preservation and valorization of cultural heritage (habits and customs), as well as the experiences of the authors.
According to António Fonseca, the work expands the universe of Angolan music that is gaining notoriety on big stages.
According to one of the group's members, Casimiro João 'Zitox”, the album released in Spain and with a thousand copies available, was recorded around seven years ago and the song that gives it the title is presented for the Mbuenzena dance and musical style.
For the co-author, the constraints caused by the financial crisis and the impact of the pandemic that affected the world also contributed to the long wait for the work that comprises musical tracks such as 'Avô Ngola”, 'Kamba Diami”, 'Kauaba Kami”, 'Kwala maca”, 'Kwanza”, 'Lemba Nganga”, 'Kungolele”, 'Mama Watu Vale”, 'Mano Sabe”, 'Ngongo Jami” and 'Parto o arm”.
Coming from the province of Malanje, the group is made up of Casimiro Pedro João 'Zitox”, Diogo Manuel 'Zuzaziu”, Coutito Pinto 'Pica”, António Gaspar 'Nitolas da Silva” and Miguel Paulo 'Puto Bebo”.
The group's members come from the municipality of Calandula. They started by playing the Cambanza (traditional guitar), moving on to the Sakaya, Dikanza, Ngoma and Guitars.
