Saurimo – The construction of a multidisciplinary cultural center, in the eastern Lunda-Sul Province, was defended this Wednesday by artists residing in this province.
Speaking to ANGOP, within the framework of National Culture Day, marked on January 8, the art makers argue that a multicultural center will allow the preservation and dissemination of Angolan culture.
They argue that the center should include, among others, theater, music, dance, weaving, painting rooms, among others.
For visual artist Alegria Pinto, the lack of a specific venue has made it difficult for him to present and sell his works.
He mentioned that the “Culture House” will also serve to train artists, in ways to perfect their arts.
On the same vein, artist Bernardo Mussulumbi reinforced the need to have arts workshops.
He made it known that in addition to the lack of venue, artists have difficulty acquiring material to create their artworks.
In turn, the director of the provincial office of culture, tourism, youth and sports, Nelson Miuca, said that the government has designed policies to support the artistic class.
He appealed to artists to continue producing their works and invest in academic, professional and technical training.
National Culture Day was established with reference to the speech on National Culture, given in 1979, by the Angola 1st President, Dr. António Agostinho Neto, during the inauguration of the managing body of the Union of Angolan Writers. EM/JW/OHA/CF/jmc
