Luanda – The director of the Oscar Ribas Museum, Sidónio Domingos, affirmed that the donation of its family estate to the museum contributes to enriching the institution's collection and preserving the memory of this Angolan writer.
Last week, Óscar Ribas' family handed over originals of the writer's unpublished works, including personal documents, letters or correspondence exchanged with other writers of his time.
The collection includes photographs that were part of the creation process of some works, illustrated covers, negatives of photographs and sculpted plaques, representing customs and cultures of the people.
Speaking to ANGOP on Saturday, Sidónio Domingos revealed that the Museum's collection is multidisciplinary, taking into account the diversity of collections that include bibliography, ethnography, numismatics, philately and personal objects, such as identity documents, watches, furniture and portraits that offer a comprehensive view of the sociocultural context of Angola over time.
The donation of the estate represents an investment in the future of Angolan culture and inspires the new generation to recognize and value their achievements and those of other Angolan heroes, he highlighted.
Hestressed that “this gesture not only recognizes Óscar Ribas importance, but also emphasizes the collective responsibility for preserving the country's history and culture”.
Writer, poet, journalist and essayist, Óscar Bento Ribas was born on August 17, 1909, in the city of Luanda, and died on June 19, 2004, in the city of Cascais, Portugal.
As part of its 115th birthday, the Museum held an exhibition entitled "Angolan soul revealed in the writings of Óscar Ribas".
The Museum is responsible for collecting, inventorying, conserving, investigating, exhibiting and disseminating the collection linked to the writer's life and work.
The building that houses the Museum, opened in 1996, was donated by the writer to the extinct Secretary of State for Culture on June 4, 1983. AB/OHA/CF/DOJ
