Lumbala-Nguimbo – The enthronement ceremony for the 25th king of the Mbunda people is scheduled for August this year in the village of Lumbala-Nguimbo, in the municipality of Bundas, eastern Moxico Province, ANGOP learnt on Tuesday.
According to Prince Mwene Nguimbo, who was speaking to the press about the preparations for the presentation and enthronement of the next king, chosen by the royal high magistracy, this cultural event will take place from 22 to 24 August this year.
He said that it is the sovereign Edu Chefo, who will receive the title of Mwene Mbandu V, 53 years old, currently residing in the Kaoma district of Western province of the Republic of Zambia, a region that belongs to the Mbunda kingdom, added that he is a trained and intellectual person who knows the local culture and traditions and speaks Mbunda, Cokwe, Luvale and English.
The new king will replace the Theologian João Pedro Mussole (Mwene Mbandu IV), who died in December 2022, three months after his enthronement.
For this cultural event, dance and song rehearsals are taking place, as well as the preparation of food logistics, in order to cater for thousands of people travelling to the ceremony, such as government entities, traditional and religious authorities, scholars, and other segments.
According to data, the Mbunda kingdom is made up of more than 15 million people living in the territories of the municipalities of Bundas and Luchazes in Moxico province. It extends to the neighbouring province of Cuando-Cubango, as well as the Republic of Zambia, Republic of Namibia, Republic of Zimbabwe and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
