Luanda - The ambassadors of Venezuela, Nicaragua and the representative of Palestine in Angola learned on Friday in Luanda about the life and work of the first President of Angola, António Agostinho Neto.
They are ambassadors Carlos Suávez Aguiar (Nicaragua), Belén Teresa Pic (Venezuela) and Khalil Sawayfa (Palestinian representative), who participated in a lecture on the theme 'The Life and Work of President António Agostinho Neto', promoted by the Angolan League of Friendship and Solidarity (LAASP).
The lecture had as speaker the administrator of the António Agostinho Neto Memorial, Francisco Makyesse, as part of the National Hero's Day, to be marked on the 17th of this month.
The ambassadors observed, among many, the recitation of the poem 'Havemos de Voltar', by Agostinho Neto, by students of the African League.
The president of LAASP, Elisa Salvador, said that the act aims to commemorate the one hundred and second birthday of Agostinho Neto and reflect on the values and ideals that he cherished so much.
He highlighted the trajectory of the nation's founder as an inspiring politician and poet for the new generation, as well as a fervent defender of justice, freedom and equality.
He informed that, every year, they try to teach young people about the life of António Agostinho Neto, in the social, cultural and political areas.
Francisco Makyesse called on young people to look with more respect at the figure of the 'father of the nation,' taking into account his achievements.
In the literary chapter, he stressed that it is essential that the new generation of Angolan writers value the works of the country's first President.
António Agostinho Neto was born on September 17, 1922, in Kaxicane (lcolo and Bengo) and died on September 10, 1979, in Moscow. He proclaimed Angola's independence on November 11, 1975. AMC/OHA/DOJ
