Luanda – The 2023 edition of the Luanda competitive carnival parade will be held from February 18 to 20, the head of the Provincial Association of Luanda Carnival, (APROCAL), Victor Nataniel Narciso, has said.
The 2023 edition returns to Luanda new boulevard after being held in th live streaming format in 2020 and 2021, due to the restrictions imposed by the government to contain the Covid-19 pandemic, with 30 groups taking part of the event, being 13 in class A, five in class B and 17 in the children's class.
Speaking to the press, Victor Narciso clarified that the children's class parade will take place on February 18, further class b and the main parade on the last day.
He explained that the results of the return of the street parade and the presentation of prizes and diplomas to the winners will be released on February 22 and 25.
The agenda also includes the holding of the carnival out of season on November 26 at independence square in celebration of the centennial of the first President of Angola, António Agostinho Neto.
The head of the APROCAL added that 90 percent of Luanda's carnival groups are prepared to participate in the parades and to perform live music, stressing that within a month the organizers of the country's biggest popular festival may have the programme concluded.
