Luanda - The winners of the three categories of the Carnival 2024 edition received a symbolic cheque for their respective prizes and a participation diploma on Saturday in the capital city.
First place in class A, União Recreativo Kilamba, received a cheque for 15 million kwanzas, the second place União Mundo da Ilha received 10 million kwanzas and the third União Kiela receive five million kwanzas.
In class B, the first one União Etu Mudietu received five million kwanzas, the second União 10 de Dezembro received three million kwanzas and the third União Twabixila received two million kwanzas.
The awards ceremony held from the 10th to the 13th of this month, took place at the Palácio de Ferro in Luanda, under the guidance of the provincial deputy governor for Political and Social Affairs, Manuel Gonçalves, representing Governor Manuel Homem.
The event was witnessed by the deputy governor for Economic Affairs, Jorge Miguêns, municipal and district administrators and members of the Luanda Provincial Carnival Association (APROCAL).
At the end of the event, the coordinator of the Carnival Preparatory Commission, Manuel Gonçalves, thanked everyone for the success of this edition and revealed that the provincial governor will create the 2025 Carnival Commission by order in the next few days.
He considered it necessary to invest more in the groups in order to provide a good show for the people who attend Luanda's biggest cultural event.
Speaking to journalists, the president of the Luanda Provincial Carnival Association, Nataniel Narciso, said that the 2025 edition will be special, more representative, exuberant and will be part of the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of National Independence, proclaimed on 11 November 1975.
He said that a debriefing meeting for the 2024 edition was planned for April.
For his part, the head of Recreativo do Kilamba, Poly Rocha, told the press that the revalidation of the title was the result of a lot of hard work, commitment and responsibility.
He stressed that the prize is still not enough for the group's structure, but that it will serve to minimise some situations. SJ/OHA/MRA/DOJ
