Menongue - The former colonial repression prison located in Missombo commune, in Cuando Cubango, is to be rehabilitated and turned into a museum complex from the second semester of this year, the local director of the Culture, Tourism, Youth and Sports Office, Afonso Rafael Dala, has said.
Without giving details on the costs of the rehabilitation works, Afonso Dala said the work is included in the Integrated Plan of Intervention in Municipalities (PIIM).
The Culture official added that the accomplishment of the project will provide better conservation of the cultural reality and continuous transmission about the History/Culture of Angola to the new and future generations.
The Missombo prison was built between 1961 and 1962 and housed 800 prisoners, including several Angolan nationalists who participated in actions against the then Portuguese colonial regime.
