Luanda – The Angolan artist Cristiano Mangovo is to display from July 25 to August 4 in Nice, France a work entitled “Projecto Mutação”, the artist has told ANGOP.
Since June of this year, the artist has been in artistic residence in the south of France, in Nice, in a work that will culminate with the opening of the exhibition at the Contemporary Cultural Space “Neo art & culture lab Vogel Art”.
Cristiano Mangovo said he is making a collection of works on “The conquest of beauty in antiquity and contemporaneity”.
The artist also explains that the Mutação Project narrates the personal questioning that arises from the constant confrontation between the idea of affection, love and subjection to the judgmental gaze, resulting in the search for inner peace and ego satisfaction.
His collection comprises a set of paintings and drawings made from acrylic on canvas.
The artist's work is multifaceted, ranging from expressionism and impressionism to surrealism, installation and performance.
Cristiano Mangovo is a visual artist who was born in 1982 in northern Cabinda. He lives and works between Angola and Portugal.
Between March and April 2016, the artist was supported by Pro- Helvetia, Suisse Arts Council - Swiss Foundation for Culture to display in Cape Town, South Africa, as part of the Infecting the City Festival, ITC Sessions.
In 2017, with the help of the Trust Bank and Pro - Helvetia, he displayed it at the First Floor Gallery in Harare, Zimbabwe.
In 2018, he was supported by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation as part of the “Luuanda Project” for an artist to display at the Centro de Investigação Artística, Hangar in Lisbon - Portugal.
In 2018, Cristiano Mangovo was awarded the Ensa Arte Prize, in the Painting Grand Prize category, and in 2021 he was selected for the Black Rock Senegal Project, where he undertook an artistic residency in Dakar-Senegal.
Also in 2021, he received the Best Lusophone Artist in Visual Arts Award in Lisbon-Portugal.AC/TED/AMP
