Luanda - Angolan writer and essayist António Quino launched his book entitled Herdeiros do Pecado (Heirs of Sin) on Friday at the Union of Angolan Writers (UEA) in Luanda Province.
The literary work, published by the Mayamba publishing house, brings a narrative textual product, produced over ten years and will be sold at 7,000 kwanzas. Initially, 1,000 copies will be available, with various stories and characters.
It is a novel that portrays the vices of today's society and also brings scenarios and themes that present a certain disharmony, which promotes sin, as a distortion of codes and norms accepted as ideal.
According to Antonio Quino, “the idea of sin, which is clear in religious books, is, however, debatable in our societies, such as harassment, stripping a widow of her possessions, adultery, migration with huge cultural consequences and other humorous themes”.
He clarified that while he was writing this literary work, there was a time of conception (which began in 2013-2014) and began to take shape in 2019, and another of literary maturation, consolidated during the pandemic season.
Speaking to ANGOP, the writer and essayist emphasised that they are narratives written in the form of a soap-opera, through which he seeks to create continuity in each chapter in order to provoke some suspense in each story.
With regard to public acceptance, he said that so far he has been receiving good feedback from the public.
“I have said that, when it comes to literary matters, a thousand times a good reader is better than a thousand bad readers, because when a good reader comes along who has the ability to produce reflections based on what the writer brings, it is very satisfying”, said the artist.
As well as being a writer and essayist, the author is a literary critic, anthologist, columnist, novelist, journalist and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Literature Sciences from the University of Minho (Braga - Portugal).
António Quino also holds a master's degree in Teaching Portuguese Language Literatures from the Agostinho Neto University (Luanda - Angola) and is a lecturer at the Higher Institute of Educational Sciences in Luanda.
He is a member of the Union of Angolan Writers and co-founder of the Angolan Academy of Letters, currently serving as its Secretary General.
António Quino is also the author of the books “Two faces of hope: Agostinho Neto and António Nobre in a comparative study (Luanda, 2014)”, “Republic of the Virus”, and organiser of the anthologies: “Conversations of Men in the Angolan Short Story”, “Ballad of Men Who Dream” and “António Agostinho Neto: The Path of Stars”.
