Luanda - The Angolan Bárbara Coimbra is among the three winners of the "Voice for Change" award of the Miss Universe 2023 competition, held Saturday, in El Salvador.
Along with candidates from the Philippines and Puerto Rico, the Angolan contender was chosen for her social project with environmental impact, in a competition involving 84 countries.
"I have no words to express how proud I am of myself and my colleagues for winning the award for best 'Voice for Change' social project. This is the greatest reward we could receive for believing that we can transform lives, because this reward It's not just for us but also for the communities that will benefit from the investment in our projects", wrote Bárbara Coimbra on her Instagram page.
Miss Universe 2023 was won by Miss Nicaragua, Sheynnis Palacios. Anntonia Porsild, from Thailand, and Australian Moraya Wilson came in 2nd and 3rd place respectively.
This year's edition was marked by two candidates who are mothers and married, two transgender women, a "plus-size" nurse and a 30-year-old Miss, making it the most diverse edition in more than 70 years.
The rule change is one of the biggest in the history of the competition, which previously only allowed single women, aged between 18 and 28, who had never been married or had children. ART/CF/AMP
