Luanda - An Angolan delegation, led by the Minister of Culture, Filipe Zau, is participating in the 46th Session of the World Heritage Committee, in New Delhi, Republic of India, which is discussing and collaborating in the preservation of shared cultural, natural and mixed assets.
According to a note received by ANGOP on Monday, this session will also evaluate 22 applications for new sites as world heritage sites, among which five are African.
According to the document, the meeting, which began on Sunday, is a significant step towards promoting global cooperation and ensuring the protection of World Heritage properties.
It states that, in addition to being a relevant instrument for the requalification of historic areas, the safeguarding of world heritage promotes the mobilization of financial capital and strengthens cooperation between States, based on the principles of horizontality in relations between peoples.
The note stresses that Angola remains engaged in the preservation of its only site, Mbanza Kongo, which celebrated on July 8 the 7th anniversary of its inscription as a Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
Also on this path, Angola has lined up other heritage assets on its indicative list, such as potential sites to be inscribed, such as the Kwanza Corridor (cultural itinerary), Tchitundu-Hulu (archaeological site) and Cuito Cuanavale (site of memory for the liberation of Southern Africa).
The meeting brings together representatives of 21 States Parties to the Convention for the Safeguarding of the World Heritage. Angola participates in the event as a State Party to the Convention. AMC/MCN/DOJ
