Luanda - Angola will participate in a forum on new developments in copyright and related rights, policies and national and international strategies, to take place from 26 to 30 of this month, in Washington, United States of America (USA).
The forum, which is held by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) with the collaboration of the United States Copyright Office (USCO), among other organizations, has on schedule the exchange of experiences on national systems, its infrastructures and response capacities, protection of copyright and related rights.
In the event Angola is represented by the National Director of Copyright and Related Rights, Barros Licença, who will take the country´s experience in drafting complementary legislation and in adapting the organization and functioning of the national system´s administrative management body.
Barros Licença states that contrary to the first participation in the event in 2018, today in the country the effective protection of the copyright and related rights is a fact, as there are services where citizens can resort to for the registration of their works, as well as to hold those who violate their rights accountable.
“Today the citizen who creates and owns the intellectual property right over a work is not only aware of the need to register it, but also to go to court to defend himself and repair damages”, said the official.
