Talatona - An Angolan Science and Culture Centre is to be set up in Moscow, Russia, as part of the cultural reinforcement exchange that witnessed Thursday in Luanda the signing of a partnership agreement between the two countries.

The reinforcement of the partnership includes the reopening of the Science and Culture Centre of the Republic of Russia in Luanda, whose aim is to promote cultural exchange between the two peoples.

The Minister of Culture and Tourism, Filipe Zau, and the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Angola, Vladimir Tararov, signed the five-year renewable agreement.

Its main tasks will be to support compatriots abroad, guaranteeing their legal, socio-cultural and educational interests.

The centers are expected to contribute to the consolidation and safeguarding of the mother tongue, national cultural originality, and the development of links between the organizations of the States Parties and compatriots living abroad and their associations.

The cultural institutions include using the information opportunities provided by the centers to create conditions conducive to the expansion of technical-scientific and cultural cooperation between the two states, as well as contributing to the establishment and development of partnership relations between the cities and regions of the two states.

The Angolan minister underscored the importance of the art as an universal, in which professionals understand each other even with different accents are united by the use of the seven notes, painting techniques and performances.

"Therefore, today, musical scores, even though they are sometimes made in other countries, are also interpreted here in Angola, with an advantage in the development of musical education and other arts," the minister said.

Russia's ambassador to Angola, Vladimir Taravov, on his turn said the signing of the agreement represents a major step towards bringing the peoples closer together and opening up great margins in the culture.

The Russian diplomat considered Angolan culture a rich one, developed and with specific traditions, recalling that he had an unforgettable experience when a group of Angolan musicians visited Russia and were received with enthusiasm.

 Co-operation

Friendship and co-operation between Angola and the Russian Federation, which date back to 1976, includes cultural activities that have contributed to the development of bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

In October 2013, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Ministries of Culture of Angola and the then Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, now the Russian Federation, which replaced the 1976 Scientific and Cultural Agreement.

The memo replaced the agreement between the two states on cultural and scientific cooperation signed on May 1976.Giz/MAG/DAN/AMP
