Luanda - Actress Pulquéria Van-Dúnem on Saturday in Luanda Province advocated greater dissemination of the Angolan oral tradition, as a way of promoting knowledge and appreciation of the culture, habits and customs of the people.
Speaking in the 6th edition of the project "Estórias no Imbondeiro" (Stories at the Baobab), the actress said that when oral tradition is disseminated, values are not lost.
“It is necessary to publicize more national stories, as unfortunately it is a habit that is being lost. When these values are not disclosed they are lost and anyone can say whatever they want”, she highlighted.
At the event, four traditional tales were portrayed, namely "O coelho" (The rabbit), “O elefante e o hipopótamo" (the elephant and the hippopotamus", “O rato e outros animais” (The mouse and other animals), “O crocodilo, a cobra, o rato e o pássaro" (The crocodile, the snake, the mouse and the bird) and “Há muito jacaré por aí" (There are a lot of alligators around there).
At the time, the actress praised the choice of stories, highlighting that they address themes such as falsehood, betrayal, jealousy, diversity and reinforce values such as intelligence, empathy and the importance of living in harmony even in differences.
The project "Estórias no Imbondeiro", is coordinated and narrated by writer José Luís Mendonça and takes place every last Saturday of each month.
It is an initiative of the Luanda Science Center and aims to raise awareness among the population, especially younger people, about the importance of knowing and valuing the traditional culture and customs of Angola. MEL/MCN/MRA/DOJ
