Luanda- The Secretary of State for Culture, Maria da Piedade de Jesus, opened Tuesday in Luanda, the celebrations of the 112th anniversary of the birth of the writer, ethnologist and essayist, Oscar Ribas, with the aim to eternalize the achievements and contribution of the considered founder of the Angolan literary fiction.
The Óscar Ribas House Museum has an exhibition of photographs, documents, correspondence, objects used by the late author, as well as an audiovisual documentary entitled "The Black Box of Óscar Ribas", which will be open until mid-November.
Considered the founder of Angolan literary fiction, Óscar Ribas started his literary activity while still a high school student which includes: Nuvens que ficam verdes, (1927), (novella), Resgate de uma falta de educação, (1929), (novella), Flores e espinhos Uanga, (1950), Ecos da minha terra natal, (1952).
Uanga - Feitiço (Folkloric novel), Ilundo - Espíritos e Ritos Angolanos (1958,1975), Missosso 3 volumes (1961,1962,1964), Alimentação regional angolana (1965), Izomba - Associativismo e recreio (1965), Sunguilando - Contos tradicionais angolanos (1967, 1989), Kilandukilu - Contos e instantâneos (1973), Tudo isto aconteceu - Romance autobiográfico (1975), Cultuando as musas - poesia (1992), Dicionário de regionalismos angolanos.
The writer was awarded several prizes such s as:
Margaret Wrong (1955), Ethnography Prize of Angola Institute (1958), Monsignor Alves da Cunha Award (1962).
Titles include: Member of the Brazilian Society of Folk-lore (1954), Officer of the Order of the Infant of the Portuguese government (1962), Gonçalves Dias Medal by the National Library of Rio de Janeiro (1968), Diploma of Merit by the Secretary of State for Culture (1989).
