Sumbe – Students from the Institutes of Education Sciences and the Higher Pedagogical Institutes in the provinces of Cuanza-Sul, Luanda, Huambo, Bié, Cuanza-Norte and Cuando-Cubango last weekend in the city of Sumbe, Cuanza-Sul Province, debated Education as a factor for social and economic development in Angola.
For three days, students tackled topics such as “Teachers and their challenges”, “the use of information technologies to strengthen education in Angola”, “reflection on the radiography of the city of Sumbe” and “the teacher and current challenges in the teaching and learning process”.
On the occasion, the director of the provincial Education Department in Cuanza-Sul, José Eduardo, considered the meeting of university students as a space for socialization and innovative experiences.
He mentioned that this activity, involving the Institutes of Educational Sciences and the Higher Pedagogical Institutes of Angola, through university student associations, offers yet another unique opportunity to link science, culture and experience, with a view to leveraging the socio-economic development of communities.
The director of education highlighted that, in this academic mosaic, Sumbe City’s ISCED stands out for being the first institution to establish itself in the province, in 2001, an important fact for the development of the 12 municipalities of Cuanza-Sul.
For the president of the board of directors of ISCED/Sumbe, José Fazenda, education is the main means of achieving social prestige and being a university student presupposes commitment and responsibility.
“Some students at the university still do not understand their role, making it difficult to acquire knowledge for their comprehensive education”, concluded Augusto José Fazenda.
Cuanza-Sul has ISCED and roughly half a dozen polytechnic institutes.
