Huambo –At least 300 pupils of the 5th grade in Huambo municipality, central Huambo province, are learning the native Umbundu language this school year, as part of the Ministry of Education's policy of valuing national languages in the country.
These are special classrooms in the pilot model to implement the teaching of the Umbundu language in elementary school 111 (Benfica neighborhood), 34 (Cidade Alta), 190 (Belo Horizonte sector, Chipipa commune) and the Tchissola private school, as part of the new 5th grade teaching model in force in the education sector.
Speaking to ANGOP, the local Education director, Tiago Canana Sapalalo, said the pilot project for teaching the Umbundu language has been running since the beginning of the school year in three public schools and one private school.
The municipality of Huambo, one of the 11 that make up the province of the same name, has an estimated population of 934,127 inhabitants, living in 433 neighborhoods, distributed in three communes, Chipipa, Calima and Sede, the latter with six sectors (Bandeira, Cacilhas, Capango, Nzaji Xavier Samacau and Vilinga).
