Moçâmedes – Angola’s government said it has been working on improving the higher education quality by ensuring conditions of infrastructure and the staff of the sector.
The pledge was made by minister of State for Economic Coordination Manuel Nunes Júnior on Tuesday in south-west Namibe province while speaking at the launch ceremony of the foundation stones of the third phase of the construction and equipping of the University of Namibe, former Academy of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, worth USD 63.1 billion.
The minister said that a public tender is underway for the admission of assistant professors, assistants and trainee assistants at the University of Namibe.
He put at 116 the number of vacancies to be filled by the candidates with appropriate profile in order to improve the quality of the university.
“Only those who have scientific and pedagogical merit should join the faculty. Our goal should be to place our universities in the ranking of the best universities on the continent”, said the minister.
In turn, the minister of Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Maria do Rosário Sambo, said the ceremony represents the materialisation of the Executive's commitment to improve higher education institutions to better serve the country.
The minister underlined that since 2018 there has been a public note regarding the funding for scientific research, which reveals that at least USD 7.5 million has been allocated to finance research projects.
